Which squid species had eyes measured at 27–28 centimeters in a New Zealand specimen collected in 2007?

Colossal squid

The colossal squid possesses the largest eyes in the animal kingdom, reaching sizes comparable to a dinner plate to help them see in the pitch-black depths of the Southern Ocean. These massive organs are specifically evolved to detect the faint bioluminescent light disturbed by large predators like sperm whales. This 2007 specimen confirmed that their eyes are significantly larger than those of the giant squid, making them the record-holders for ocular size.
