Question of the Day #200 · October 9, 2026
What is the driest place on Earth, where some regions have seen no rain or snow for nearly two million years?
Show answer
Antarctica
Antarctica is a polar desert because it receives very little precipitation even though most of it is covered in ice. Its McMurdo Dry Valleys are among Earth’s coldest and driest places, but they receive up to about 100 millimeters of precipitation annually, mainly as snow—so the claim of no rain or snow for nearly two million years is misleading.
