Question of the Day #138 · August 8, 2026
Why are the shells of cashews never sold to consumers, unlike peanuts or pistachios?
Show answer
They are toxic
Cashew shells contain caustic oils related to the irritating compounds found in poison ivy. The nuts must therefore be carefully heat-treated and removed from their shells before reaching consumers.
