Which highly porous volcanic rock is well known for being able to float on water?
Show answer
Pumice
Pumice is created during explosive volcanic eruptions when gas-rich magma cools so quickly that gas bubbles remain trapped inside the stone. Because these numerous air pockets make the rock less dense than water, it is one of the few rocks that can actually float.
