What political philosophy advocates abolishing the state and organizing society through voluntary cooperation?
Reveal answer
Anarchism
The term anarchism is derived from the Greek word 'anarchos,' meaning 'without rulers,' and emphasizes self-governance over hierarchical authority. While often associated with chaos in popular culture, the philosophy is actually rooted in the idea of highly organized communities based on mutual aid. A famous early proponent was Pierre-Joseph Proudhon, who in 1840 became the first person to officially describe himself as an anarchist.
