How many voting seats are apportioned among the 50 states in the U.S. House of Representatives?

Show answer

435

The number of voting representatives was permanently capped at 435 by the Reapportionment Act of 1929 to keep the legislative body manageable as the population grew. These seats are redistributed every ten years based on the results of the U.S. Census to ensure fair representation. Interestingly, if the House had continued to grow at its original rate rather than being capped, there would be thousands of representatives today.
