Which German composer of the Ninth Symphony became deaf later in life yet continued composing?
Show answer
Ludwig van Beethoven
Beethoven began losing his hearing in his late 20s and was almost completely deaf when he composed his famous Ninth Symphony. He was able to 'hear' the music in his mind and used a wooden rod attached to his piano to feel the vibrations of the notes.
