Which American jazz trumpeter recorded the 1959 album 'Kind of Blue,' often cited as the best-selling jazz album of all time?

Show answer

Miles Davis

Miles Davis recorded this masterpiece using a 'modal' approach, focusing on scales rather than complex chord changes to create a more relaxed, atmospheric sound. To capture genuine spontaneity, Davis provided his band with almost no rehearsal time before the 1959 recording sessions. It is widely considered the best-selling traditional jazz album of all time and was certified 5x Platinum in 2019.
