Who is credited with proving the Universal Approximation Theorem for sigmoid activation functions in 1989?
Show answer
George Cybenko
Cybenko's theorem stated that a feedforward network with a single hidden layer and a finite number of neurons can approximate any continuous function on compact subsets of Rn. Kurt Hornik later showed in 1991 that the choice of activation function is less important than the multilayer feedforward architecture itself.
