What is the name of the gap between two neurons where chemical signals are transmitted?

Show answer

Synaptic cleft

The synaptic cleft is a microscopic space, roughly 20 nanometers wide, that prevents neurons from physically touching while allowing them to communicate. When an electrical impulse reaches the end of one neuron, it triggers the release of neurotransmitters that float across this tiny gap to pass the signal to the next cell.
