Which Mughal emperor is noted for his policy of 'Sulh-i-kul' (universal peace) and for abolishing the jizya tax previously imposed on non-Muslim subjects?
Show answer
Akbar the Great
Akbar expanded Mughal rule across much of northern and central India and strengthened the imperial administration. He abolished the jizya in 1564 and later embraced sulh-i-kul ('peace with all'); the small initiatory circle later called Din-i Ilahi reflected his eclectic personal beliefs rather than a mass religion for his subjects.
