What is the name of the 1787-1788 series of essays written to promote the ratification of the US Constitution?
Show answer
The Federalist Papers
The Federalist Papers consist of 85 essays written by Alexander Hamilton, James Madison, and John Jay under the collective pseudonym "Publius." While originally intended to persuade New York voters to ratify the Constitution, they are now considered the most important primary source for interpreting the original intent of the U.S. government. A remarkable fact is that Hamilton wrote 51 of the essays himself, often producing up to four per week.
