Formed in 478 BC to continue the fight against the Persian Empire, what association of Greek city-states was led by Athens and eventually evolved into the Athenian Empire?

Delian League

The league was named for the island of Delos, where its treasury was originally kept before being moved to Athens. Athens' increasing control over the league's members and funds was a major cause of the Peloponnesian War.
