In the BBC series Sherlock, Martin Freeman portrays which loyal companion to Holmes and veteran of the War in Afghanistan?

John Watson

Watson serves as the narrator and moral compass for the brilliant but detached Sherlock Holmes. The modern adaptation updates the character's military service to the 21st-century conflict.
