Who painted "The Starry Night"?

Vincent van Gogh

Van Gogh painted this masterpiece from the window of his asylum room in Saint-Rémy-de-Provence just before sunrise. The large, dark structure on the left is a cypress tree, which was often used as a symbol of mourning and mortality in the 19th century.
